We are attempting a vegetable garden in our backyard this year, and, thanks to the encouragement and frequent reminders of our friend Sarah Kilpack, we finally got our seeds started this past weekend. We are new to this gardening thing, so we would appreciate any advice you might have to offer us. On Saturday we planted seeds for tomatoes, peppers, cilantro and basil. Here are a few pictures to mark the beginning of our gardening journey...
David does the planting.

Quinn displays some of the varieties we are planting:
Persimmon Tomatoes and Orange Sunrise Sweet Peppers.

Vera loses interest in the planting and moves on to practice her stair climbing skills.

But she soon returns to help her Papa finish up.

awesome. we want to plant a garden this year too, but as we have no yard we have to buy fancy earth boxes that take all the real work out of gardening. but i'm still looking forward to picking the peas, whether i had to weed or not. we're planting peas, beans, peppers, and cucumbers. i'm also hoping to get an herb garden growing in the kitchen window. any advice?
Awww... You guys are so cute. We also planted basil and peppers last summer, and they died in the hot Denver sun :o( I'm sure you'll have better luck in lush Portland. Good Luck!
Just be careful with hot peppers or bitter squash. They will taint your other produce.
